Next unit: another five-man Cataphractii squad. I love the assault cannon guy, standing on the high ground raining death . . .
The Death Guard are going to be taking a break now for a couple of months (still got that 10-man support squad with assault cannons and the Contemptor Mortis to finish),  because the new project is . . . Space Wolves.
I got the new boxed set, it's awesome (and not just for the mini rule book), and that was enough for me. I'm going to splicing some plastic and resin and try some 30k conversions for the 40k Space Wolves. I'll keep you posted . . .

The Deathstar

And we all know what happened to it! Seriously though I'm hoping this will give the Deathguard some serious impact on the field. A Spartan carrying 10 Cataphractii - this is the first, I have another which will carry the Praetor, Deathshroud and Grave Wardens. It has a used and abused look: Tamiya White over a Vallejo Grey Primer chipped using the 'hairspray method', then GW paints for the Death Guard stripes. I used the FW Land Raider doors, but think I'll stick with the decal sheet for the second one.

Not the Deathguard . . .

Here's my Imperial Knight: Baron Rowland of House Cadmus. This is a great model, easy to assemble and it paints surprisingly quickly. I love the effect of the Uln Oil wash, cut well with Lahmian Medium, to shade the metal areas. I wish really I painted this one up as a Mechanicum Knight now I've got Book 3 of the Istvaan Trilogy . . . I'm very tempted by a Mechanicum army! This one hasn't seen action yet, he was to take the field alongside my Ultramarines to kick some Night Lords' butt but new baby intervened!

Command Squad

This is the five-man command squad. I like the Volkite Calivers as I figured that these guys would have  access to some more esoteric weaponry. They have the insignia of the Third Grand Company on their shoulder pauldrons. The guy in Mk. II plate has a combi-bolter and a chainsword from the new 40k Sternguard set.

Cataphractii

This is my six-man Cataphractii squad. The sergeant is a Deathshroud model with a pair of Lightning Claws. With them is my Praetor - with a Power Scythe and Hand Flamer he can double up for a (shaven!) Calas Typhon if needs be. The Dragon Forge bases are awesome on these models.

Death Guard Progress

Back again, I've not been keeping the Blog up to date but work has been progressing on the Death Guard. First up a Tactical Support with Plasma Guns. The firepower is awesome, especially at close range where the Rapid Fire makes them devastating.
